Crystal’s Thoughts on Obama’s Pregnancy Assistance Fund

(CNN) – The Health and Human Services Department announced Friday that it is making $25 million available to states to support pregnant women and teen parents, in an initiative that the White House is framing as a way to find common ground on abortion.

The new federal Pregnancy Assistance Fund will award grants to states aimed at providing pregnant women and teen parents support for completing high school or college degrees and for getting health care, child care and housing, HHS said in a news release Friday.

The grants can also be used to combat violence against pregnant women, the release said.

Crystals Opinion

Ok so I read this beliefs blog about how Obama wants to have a fund for teens, I am all for that cause! And this may be a good thing but at the same time those against abortion want to ban sex education classes. I feel like if we educate teens about sex and what can be the outcome of having sex we can prevent some abortions. Teens need to know that there are options and how they can best protect themselves against pregnancy and contracting STD’s.  At the end of the day, teens are going to do whatever they want but at least they’ll have the information they need and they can’t say I never knew or no one ever taught me. I feel strongly about this grant and hope that maybe it can help many teens and prevent situations where they feel like they have no options or support.  It’s our bodies and we can choose whether or not we want kids. But in order to make that choice we need nondiscriminatory access to schools and basic resources. I hope this fund begins to bridge the gap between the myths and realities of the challenges we face as teen moms.
