Sistas on the Rise is a wonderful organization doing incredible work on the behalf of young women throughout New York City and beyond. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know this organization and the ways that it provides a new and overdue advocacy for teen mothers in the city. Based in the South Bronx, Sistas on the Rise is an organization of impassioned women who use their various talents to advocate for essential resources that are vital for teen mothers and for a collective sisterhood of women, young women and teen moms alike.
Here’s a fabulous bio in addition to the info they’ve provided already:
“Sisters on the Rise is a collective of young women living in low-income communities of color in the Bronx, NY. Sistas on the Rise seeks to build inclusive sisterhood by providing a safe space for sisters to tap into their own power and take action for social change and justice. Young women, who were or are teen mothers, ages 13-21, are at the center of the work because their voices and experiences are often under-represented, yet incredibly valuable to building a social justice movement. Sistas on the Rise is working on an Education Organizing Campaign to gather and motivate student moms to ensure the creation of more daycare slots in the Martha Nielson School, and ensure that young mothers receive an adequate high school education.”
